Just purchased Flex Builder from Adobe

Just a quick update - i've been absent for a short while, getting snowed under with real life! But i'm back now, so lets get ready to rummmmmmble! I now own a fully paid for copy of Flex Builder 3 - although i will still be using FlashDevelop as i really like it, i wanted to support Adobe, and also have a play with the flex designer in eclipse.

Flex Builder 3 Standard Edition

Can Lightning Really Strike The Same Place Twice?

It's true! Great minds can think alike! On the same day, in two different countries Kenneth Christensen and I were setting up actionscript blogs, nothing really strange in that. Both the blogs are about actionscript 3 programming, and we both visit the same flash forums. Still not much of a coincidence, until you know that we titled both our blogs the same! Spooky! And neither of us mentioned what we were doing anywhere! It must be a glitch in the matrix! Anyway, he's already posted some example flash code! Good stuff - check it out here flashcoding.blogspot.com/ (how's that for a free plug?).

Building My Next Personal Computer

My 3 year old desktop PC (it's not really a desktop, it's far too big and noisy to actually sit on my desk) has past it's prime so it's time to build myself a new one! I suppose i could save myself some time and a bit of money and just buy something from Dell, but i like to know what's inside my pc, and that i can change/replace any parts myself if i need to. Also hopefully i can squeeze a bit of extra performance out of it, by buying the right bits. It's quite time consuming and there are many problems in building a stable system with new parts, till the drivers are mature enough to iron out any issues.

So what do i want from a new PC?

  • Upper limit of about £1200 (this is just for the base unit, not including speakers, monitor, keyboard & mouse)
  • Quietish (some air noise is ok, but vibration and other noisy parts should be at a minimum)
  • Speedy (I spend a lot of my day working on a pc so it needs to keep up)
  • Stable (same as above, i need a solid, reliable pc to work on)

So i did my research and spent my time picking components that should work together, and came up with 3 builds based on price

To blog or not to blog

Hi and welcome to my first official post on my first blog!

So why does the web need another blog, and what will my blog be about?

I'm not sure it does need another one, but i've been playing around creating offline sites and i figured it's about time i tried going live. And hopefully the name gives you a big clue to what this blog will mostly be about - actionscript programming. But there will also be some general computer stuff, web stuff and live things - so if you want to know about what i'm learning about actionscript in particular AS3, and maybe what i had for dinner today - then you've found the right blog.
